Our founder, Jonathan Huffman noticed that currently augmented reality kind of sucks. You make a creation, but nobody else can see it. It floats and hovers around, unfixed in space. You turn off the app, and it is gone. What if those things changed? What if there was a shared, persistent A/R universe for all?
Laysphere is that universe. Each sphere is based on a grid map of the entire world, enabling the users to create digital content, save it to the cloud, and have their friends and collaborators find and interact with that content in the setting that the user built it.
From the shared, public Home Sphere, content creators can make their content spheres available, and can invite their users to join. Content spheres can be exclusive or open, paid or free, ticketed or subscription, ad-supported or uncluttered. They can progressively generate across the whole surface of the earth, or be tied only to a single or a few specific locations.
Underneath all of it lies a Unity-driven 3D elevation map, which makes wireframe meshes for every physical surface and object, and then allows creators to build on those objects and interact with them as though they are digital entities in a videogame. The digital overlay ties to the physical world, and allows digital and physical objects to realistically interact, creating opportunities for delightful and engaging interactions.
